Citrus College has become the first community college in California to earn accreditation for its construction management program, marking a milestone for career education in the region.
The accreditation was granted by the American Council for Construction Education in late February 2026 after a multi-year review process. College officials say the designation places the program among a select group recognized for meeting national standards in construction education.
Program Sets Statewide Benchmark
The Citrus College construction management program, launched in fall 2019, now stands as a model for community college programs across California. The American Council for Construction Education evaluates curriculum, faculty qualifications, facilities, and student outcomes as part of its accreditation process.
College Superintendent and President Dr. Greg Schulz said the recognition reflects years of planning and development.
“Receiving accreditation is monumental for the college and our construction management program,” Schulz said. “This achievement confirms we are offering a gold standard program and positions our students for future success.”
Officials note that accreditation signals to employers that graduates are prepared to meet industry demands and contribute effectively in professional roles.
Rigorous Review And Industry Collaboration
The accreditation followed a two-and-a-half-year process that began in April 2023. Faculty and staff conducted a comprehensive self-study and worked with industry advisors to align coursework with current professional standards.
The college submitted its findings in May 2025. An accrediting team conducted an on-site evaluation in October 2025, reviewing instruction, facilities, and student outcomes.
Construction management faculty member Roberto Loya credited the broader campus community for supporting the effort.
“Industry accreditation is vital because it helps employers recognize quality candidates,” Loya said. “It shows our students meet high standards and are ready to contribute to the field.”
According to the accrediting body’s final report, the program received approval with no deficiencies or weaknesses identified.
Career Pathways And Workforce Demand
College officials say the program provides a direct pathway into a high-demand field. Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows employment for construction managers is expected to grow faster than average through 2034.
The profession reports a median annual salary of about $106,980, with higher earnings tied to experience and responsibility.
Students completing a degree or certificate in construction management can pursue roles in project management, site supervision, and related fields across the construction industry.
Board Of Trustees Recognizes Achievement
Leaders from the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees also acknowledged the milestone. Board President Laura J. Bollinger said the accreditation reflects collaboration between faculty, industry partners, and local organizations.
She noted the recognition strengthens opportunities for students while reinforcing the college’s commitment to workforce development.
With accreditation secured, Citrus College officials expect continued growth in enrollment and stronger connections with industry partners.
