Baldwin Park Animal Services Provider Changes

|

The Baldwin Park animal services provider will change starting July 1, 2026, as the city transitions to a new agency for animal care and control.

The City of Baldwin Park will end service with the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control and shift responsibility to the Inland Valley Humane Society & SPCA, a nonprofit based in Pomona.

City officials said the change will not reduce services. Core programs will remain in place, including animal control and enforcement, response to stray and injured animals, pet adoptions, and licensing support. Veterinary care will continue through the organization’s medical center.

Services Continue Under New Provider

Under the Baldwin Park animal services provider transition, the Inland Valley Humane Society & SPCA will manage field services and shelter operations. The group operates a main campus at 500 Humane Way in Pomona and runs the nearby Alex & Elisabeth Lewyt Medical Center.

The organization serves several communities across the San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire. Its system includes shelter intake, adoption programs, and access to low-cost veterinary services. Community programs will also remain available, including pet food assistance, education, and nuisance animal support.

Residents can contact the new provider directly after July 1 by calling 909-623-9777 or visiting https://www.ivhsspca.org for service details.

Regional Shift In Service Models

The Baldwin Park animal services provider change reflects a wider shift among cities reviewing how animal services are delivered. Some cities have moved toward nonprofit contracts to improve response times and expand local programs.

The Inland Valley Humane Society & SPCA operates a regional model that combines enforcement, sheltering, and medical care. City officials said more details will be shared as the transition date approaches.

The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control will continue serving other contract cities. Information remains available at https://animalcare.lacounty.gov.

What Residents Should Expect Next

City officials plan to release updates before the transition takes effect. These will include instructions for reporting animal issues and accessing services under the new system.

The change shifts oversight but keeps the same focus on public safety and animal welfare. Residents are encouraged to review city updates and outreach materials as they are released, including the official notice .
