The Housing For All Scholarship recognized 10 students and adult learners from across the San Gabriel Valley during a May 20 awards ceremony hosted by Rio Hondo Community Development Corporation.
The nonprofit awarded $10,000 in scholarships, providing ten recipients with $1,000 each to support their educational goals. The ceremony took place at the Courtyard by Marriott in Baldwin Park and brought together students, families, educators, community leaders and sponsors.
Recipients were selected through a competitive review process that evaluated academic achievement, leadership, community involvement and determination in pursuing higher education.
This year’s scholarship recipients were Sally Alvarez, Gibeth Barron, Steven Chen, Richard Chen, Adriana Cervantes, Sharens Hua, Emily Lin, Priscilla Madrigal, Alani Rodriguez and Briana Sanchez.
Students represented Arroyo High School, El Monte High School, Mountain View High School, Rosemead High School and South El Monte High School.
Housing For All Scholarship Supports Diverse Paths
A notable aspect of the program is its support for students at different stages of life. While most recipients are preparing for or continuing college studies, the scholarship also recognizes adult learners returning to school to advance their careers.
This year, Priscilla Madrigal received a scholarship while continuing studies in mechanical engineering. Briana Sanchez earned an award as she pursues a Master of Business Administration degree.
Kenneth Ferreira, executive director of Rio Hondo Community Development Corporation, said education remains a powerful tool for creating opportunity and strengthening communities.
He said recipients demonstrated resilience, dedication and a commitment to improving their futures through education. Ferreira added that the organization is proud to support students and adult learners as they pursue their goals.
The scholarship program aims to reduce financial barriers to higher education while encouraging leadership, academic success and civic engagement throughout the region.
Community Investment In Education
Rio Hondo Community Development Corporation thanked volunteers, community partners and scholarship committee members who helped administer the program. The organization also recognized Citizens Business Bank for its financial support of the 2026 scholarship cycle.
According to RHCDC, community investments help expand educational opportunities and strengthen local neighborhoods by supporting future professionals, business leaders and skilled workers.
The Housing For All Scholarship reflects the organization’s broader mission of improving quality of life through affordable housing, economic development, education and community revitalization initiatives.
