The Michael Boore Jr. Memorial Martial Arts Scholarship will hold a fundraiser in El Monte to help low-income and at-risk children access martial arts training. The fundraiser honors the late Michael Boore Jr., a nationally recognized Taekwondo athlete who died in 2022 after battling a terminal brain tumor.
Michael’s family recently launched the nonprofit scholarship program to continue his legacy through youth mentorship, discipline, and athletic development. According to the family’s fundraiser announcement, scholarship funds will help children participate in martial arts classes and competitions while building confidence and healthy lifestyles.
The fundraiser features chamoy gummies for sale at USA Taekwondo Center in El Monte, located at 11025 Lower Azusa Road. Bags cost $6 each or four for $20. Organizers will sell the items daily from 4 to 8 p.m.
Michael’s mother said the scholarship reflects the determination and spirit her son showed throughout his life and illness. She described him as a passionate competitor who earned his first national medal before winning gold at the 2020 U.S. Open. Michael also dreamed of joining Team USA before his diagnosis in October 2020.
Martial Arts Scholarship Fundraiser Honors Athlete
The family said Michael fought his illness for 19 months before his death on May 4, 2022, shortly before his 16th birthday. His story continues to inspire the scholarship’s mission to support young people facing financial hardship or difficult circumstances.
Organizers hope the program will remove barriers for families who cannot afford martial arts instruction. They believe training programs can teach discipline, confidence, respect, and resilience while giving students positive goals outside school.
Community members can learn more about the scholarship and donation efforts through Bring Out Your Champion. The fundraiser flyer also lists direct contact information for families interested in contributing or seeking additional details about the scholarship program.
The Michael Boore Jr. Memorial Martial Arts Scholarship plans to expand fundraising efforts throughout the San Gabriel Valley as organizers continue building support for the nonprofit. Family members said every purchase made during the fundraiser will help create opportunities for children who may not otherwise have access to martial arts programs.
Residents interested in supporting the fundraiser can visit USA Taekwondo Center during operating hours or contact organizers by email at bringoutyourchampion@gmail.com. Information about martial arts programs and training opportunities is also available through USA Taekwondo Center.
Organizers said the community’s support carries special meaning because it allows Michael’s passion for Taekwondo and youth mentorship to continue helping others long after his passing. They hope the scholarship will give young students encouragement, structure, and opportunities that can shape their futures in positive ways.
